‘V/H/S’ was released to the short film circuit back in January and reached major theaters via Magnet releasing October 5. It’s a horror film that chronicles 6 short stories in a row, each directed by a different part of a group of filmmakers called “Radio Silence”.
I went into this film completely blind, without seeing any trailers or promos and suggest you do exactly the same. It’s got some really gut wrenching moments that may feed deep on your worst nightmares. Of course, with almost any scary movie, plot holes can be found and the story can be lacking at times, but overall, if you sit back and just enjoy the ride, it’s one of the best horror films to come out in a while, give or take a few flaws. The film is very low budget and was only reported to make $100,000+ at the box office. There isn’t anything but natural lighting used and at best, nice consumer grade cameras. That adds to part of the charm, after you get used to all of the handheld shaking.
‘V/H/S’ is no longer playing in theaters, but can be found at your local Redbox, rental house or On Demand provider. It’s definitely worth a watch if you enjoy something scary and has the feel of one of those endless nightmares that even when you wake up and go back to sleep, it’s still there to meet you with an even more unsettling finish.
